On my plane ride home from North Dakota not too long ago, I finally watched a movie I had been waiting to watch for a very long time. That movie is Mr. Brooks. Many of you probably are familiar with the movie or remember the previews. Anywho, it's about the American Dream to some extent because it involves a man who worked his way from the bottom all the way up to the top. However, long before he reached the top he was addicted; addicted to a terrible thing. He was addicted to killing. Mr. Brooks gets a rush, a high, a "kick" out of killing other people. After watching this disturbing movie, for some reason it got me thinking. Isn't there something in life that everyone of us is "addicted" to? Something specific to each of us that we get a "rush" out of?
As I delved deeper into this idea I suddenly came across what I am addicted to in life. I am addicted to the little things in life. While this may seem somewhat corny, it makes perfect sense if you know me well enough. I love certain quirks, not only about myself, but little quirks I notice about others as well. How people curl their hair around their finger a certain way or how a people react to a certain grade on a test when they first get it back or, in general, what amuses other people. Yes, I am amused by what amuses others. I am not entirely sure how this came to be, but it came to be nonetheless. I have not thought this feeling through completely which is why it may seem somewhat vague. Maybe if I get some more time to think it through I will update this later.
My reason for posting has been this. Examine your life. Find what you are addicted to in life. Then expand on that addiction. Don't allow it to consume you, simply use it to make your life better than it already is. Find that something that makes you happy, even if it's only for a moment each day. The point is to increase the frequency of your happiness because that's one of the most important aspects of life; being happy.
